If you have a new car, it's likely that you have an aluminum radiator. Often the choice for newer cars, aluminum radiators offer several
benefits that traditional copper and brass radiators do not.
But what if you're in the market for a new radiator? Should you consider aluminum radiators?
Before you pick out a radiator, there are 4 things that you might want to know about the aluminum ones:
Aluminum radiators are cheaper. Because it's a cheaper material, aluminum costs less than copper
and brass. If you are looking for a cheap radiator - that still offers maximum performance - aluminum may be your best bet.
However, price can't be your sole factor when make a radiator decision. If you have a turbo-charged,
high-performance engine, you will have to make sure that an aluminum radiator can keep up. Some high end engines are simply too powerful for aluminum - but,
in most cases, aluminum radiators offer great performance for a lower price.
Aluminum radiators are lighter. It's tough to have a lot of "get up and go" when you've got a ton
of heavy parts under the hood. Aluminum is much lighter than brass or copper, so it gives you the performance you need - without weighing your car down.
Remember, lighter cars get better mileage.
And, since aluminum radiators are so light, all of their parts can be constructed out of aluminum. Brass and copper, on the
other hand, are so heavy that some of their parts have to be made out of plastic to ease the weight. And, plastic just won't hold up as well to wear and tear
as aluminum.
Aluminum radiators can be welded. If you get a leak or a crack in a brass or
copper radiator, you usually have to replace the entire thing. But aluminum radiators work well with welding equipment - so it's easy to patch up small
issues.

Aluminum is a recyclable metal, so, when you have to dispose of your old radiator, the aluminum can be melted and used to
make a new radiator. That way, you don't have to worry about clogging up landfills with your old aluminum radiators.
Brass and copper, on the other hand, cannot be recycled. When you have to get rid of a brass or copper radiator, it will
sit in a landfill forever. That's why brass and copper radiators come with extra disposal fees - that aluminum radiators don't.
